PARLIAMENT ROCKED OVER ALLEGED GOVT-BJP DEAL TO LET OFF MODI
From Our Delhi Bureau
NEW DELHI: Parliament was paralysed by the non-BJP opposition on Wednesday alleging the main opposition BJP's trade-off with the government to support the controversial Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill in return for the CBI's clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2005 fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, in which his Home Minister was arrested.
Members repeatedly rushed into the well of both the Houses as soon as they met and then every time they re-assembled after adjournment and ultimately the presiding officers adjourned them for Thursday, but only after the much-awaited Standing Committee report on the Bill, crucial for operationalisation of India's civil nuclear deals with various countries for setting up power plants was tabled amid pandemonium.
The report tabled in the Rajya Sabha by committee chairman T Subbirami Reddy and in the Lok Sabha by its member Pradeep Tamta (Cong) has dissenting notes from its CPI(M) and Forward Bloc members, Saman Pathak of CPI(M) wanting no cap on total liability and increasing the nuclear plant operator's liability for each incident from Rs 1500 crores as recommended by the committee to Rs 10,000 crores while Dr Barun Mukherji (FB) wanted plants under joint venture excluded from the limited liability.
While Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav led the charge on letting off Modi with the Left rising in support, the Bahujan Samaj Party members were in the well with a different agenda of pressing for dismissal of the BJP government in Karnataka for illegal mining, a tit-for-tat tactic adopted for attack in the last two days on their leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for farmers' killings.
The BSP members trooped into the well in both the Houses waving placards for Karnataka government's dismissal as soon as they assembled and then followed the din over alleged clean chit to Modi in the Gujarat encounter for BJP ending standoff and supporting the nuclear bill.
Some RJD MPs and LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan also sat on dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament House complex for giving the clean chit to Modi even while Mulayam justified protests in Parliament, pointing out that that "BJP and Congress have struck a deal over the nuclear bill for bailing out Narendra Modi" putting the national interests aside.

snake at union home minister's house in chennai
The snake couldn’t care less that it was rattling Union Home minister’s mother.
P Chidambaram’s mother Lakshmi Ammal spotted a snake in her compound on Thursday morning
and rung up the fire and rescue service department. The personnel from the Mylapore fire station rushed
to the house on South Canal Road in Mandaveli. But even after hours of search, they could not ferret out the snake.
But on Friday morning, the snake surfaced again and Lakshmi Ammal rung for the firemen again.
This time, the firemen found it under a cement slab in the compound.
A fireman said, “We rescued a 6-foot-long rat snake from the house.
It is non-poisonous and does not cause harm. We have handed it over to the Guindy snake park”.

PARLIAMENT BUZZ. Monday August 9, 2010

-----------------------------
Karnataka Chief Minister Yedurappa was in Parliament Central Hall
on Monday, he walked alone, the only Union Minister to greet
him was Jairam Ramesh and that too in chaste Kannad language.
Yedurappa was walking towards LK Advani chambers. Later
Rajiv Chandrasekhar and other Karnataka MPs running from
one end to another.Including Vijay Malaya.
----------------------
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda is also
a loner in Parliament Central Hall. None went near to him. But unfortunately
Hooda had spoiled his name with the Dalit issue.Hence no Congress
MP is seen going near to him. A sad development for AICC.
Because next to Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2009, it was
Bhupeder SIngh Hooda who helped the party with funds
and mobiliastion of support. Haryana won lots of seats
for Congress. But now Hooda is sidelined.
------------------------------ -----------------------------
Salman Khursheed Union Minister led a delegation of 65 MPsto thank P Chidambaram Union Home Minister for the UPA2 to
withdraw the Enemy's property.
------------------------------ ------------------
Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were walking fast towards
the Central Hall, .Many Congress MPs ran after these two
leaders

Prasar Bharti has disconnected two TVs from its
direct to home platform. Coincidentally the Prasar Bharti wanted
extra signals from satellite.Unfortunately both TV channels
belonged to Congress leaders. India TV of Vinod Sharma of Haryana
and News 24 of Rajiv Shukhla. There is also a late fee which these
two TVs had not paid on time. Hence disconnection.

CWG IRREGULARITIES DEBATE MAY CONTINUE ON TUESDAY
From Our Delhi Bureau
NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha on Monday continued a day-long debate on the irregularities and delay in preparations for the Commonwealth Games and shall continue for the second day on Tuesday as large number of members sought to express concern over the prestige of India put at stake from all sorts of corruptions suddenly coming to light.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal intervened to plead with the Chair late in the evening to allow Sports Minister M S Gill give a substantive reply to the debate only on Tuesday, adding that the spill-over can enable more members to participate. The House was adjourned for the day at 7 pm.
The business advisory committee (BAC) of the House has fixed a debate on Tuesday on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, sought by 23 members led by Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj. Bansal pleaded that this debate can be shifted to Wednesday if the CWG debate continues on Tuesday.
Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy intervened to slap the Opposition members claiming waste of over Rs 1 lakh crores by the government in hosting the mega event, pointing out that all that the Centre has sanctioned to various agencies for the Games was just Rs 11,494 crores. He ridiculed the Opposition for cooking up a false and fantastic figure of the Games costing the nation over Rs 1 lakh crores.
He also pointed out that Delhi Government's total spent on the preparations was altogether 16,560 crores, including Rs 2800 crores provided by the Centre. As regards the organising committee headed by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chairman and Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, the minister said the government has provided it Rs 2394 crores only as loan, expecting it to refund from the revenue earned in organising the games.
A score of Opposition members tried to interrupt Reddy giving out break-up of spend on each account, but the Chair disallowed all questions on the ground that he was just intervening and not replying to the debate.
Reddy pointed out that Rs 3000 crores and odd have been spent only on expanding the Metro Railway network up to Noida and Gurgaon which should not be treated as direct expenditure for the Games to show huge spends and claim them wasteful. Even the stadiums renovated or built would remain forever and as such expenditure on them should not be dubbed wasteful for a 14-day extravaganza.
The minister said most of the venues, including the Games Village, are ready while other venues including the Siri Fort sports complex, tennis stadium and some others will be ready well in time by August 31 for the Games that start only on October 3. Stadiums for practice and training shall also be ready by August 31 and hence there should be no worry that the players who start arriving in Delhi for the Games from mid-September would have no place to practice, Reddy added.

SONIA BACK IN PARLIAMENT
From Our Delhi Bureau
NEW DELHI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi was back in Parliament on Monday, after two weeks of absence as she had to rush to the United States to attend to her octogenarian ailing mother.
The Congress MPs made a beeline to her seat in the Lok Sabha to greet her while she met some of the party leaders in her Parliament House chamber later.
Since her chamber is on the other side of the Central Hall close to the Rajya Sabha, she could be seen walking briskly, with her MP son Rahul Gandhi in tow, to avoid any MPs sitting in the Central Hall rush to her to speak.
