NO VVIP TO GO
TO HARIDWAR
during MAHA KUMBH

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has asked his cabinet colleagues
not to visit Haridwar during Maha Kumbh.
Directions of Prime Miinister was based on the plea from the
Uttarakhand Chief Minister that VVIP visits be avoided
Echoing it, Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar has written
to all the Union Ministers enclosing a copy of the letter
of Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhrial to PM wanted to
concede the request.

You may be aware Maha Kumbh 2010 is being observed at Haridwar Uttarakhand
and the first major Snaan on 12th January 2010 saw over 10 lakh pilgrims taking
dip in the Ganges. The dates for other Mukhay Snaan/Shahi Snaan are
20th January , 12th February 15 March Somwati Amawasya, second Shahi Saan
16th March Nav Samvastar) 24th March Sri Ramnavmi , 30th March and 14th April
2. Chief Minister Uttarkhand has requested the Prime Minister to impress
upon the VVIPs inlcuding his cabinet colleagues to kindly avoid visits to
Haridwar on the Mukhya Snaan/Shahi Snaan days as it is difficult for the state
admiinstration to make special arrangements towards protocol and
security of the VVIPs A Copy of his letter is enclosed. Chief Minister
Uttarkhand has referred to unpleasant situations in the past due
to inadequate arranagments for VVIPs.
As desired by the Prime Minister your kind attention is drawn to
the request of made by the Chief Minister, Uttarkhand.
