TELANGANA MPs STAY AWAY FROM PARLIAMENT

From Our Delhi Bureau

NEW DELHI: While the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman sit over the resignations tendered by the Telangana region MPs to press for statement to Telangana, they conducted themselves on Monday as if they are no longer members of Parliament by staying away on the opening day of the monsoon session.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari wriggled out when asked to comment on their fate, pointing out that the ball is in the Speaker's court and so it would be unfair on his part to comment. He also stressed that it is an emotive issue and the Congress leadership will only advise one and all to have patience.

Lok Sabha Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj admitted that the MPs' resignations exposes the government's adamant attitude on the issue, particularly when majority of them are from the ruling Congress. She has already given a notice on the Telangana issue and she hopes it will be listed this week itself, she added.

Meanwhile, Home Minister P Chidambaram disclosed that the Centre is referring back the issue to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to rebuild a consensus on the issue. The Andhra Pradesh Assembly had passed a resolution in January last year, seeking deletion of Clause 14(F) from the Presidential Order for the purpose. The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), however, decided to refer back the resolution to the Assembly to have a relook, he said.
When Andhra Pradesh assembly is in a limbo with 112 MLAs resigned and 11 Ministers abstaining from work- the centre direction has put both Andhra Governor and Chief Minister in a tight spot.
How would the resoltuion be passed. Once the aasembly is convened the Opposition will bring a no confidence motion.
He also regretted the suicide by a youth in Delhi a fortnight ago, demanding the separate state of Telangana. He asked youth not to take such extreme steps. Discussions and consultations with MPs and MLAs were on to find a solution, he said, hopingto find a solution in near future.
