DIG VIJAYA SINGH P CHIDAMBARAM WAR INTENSIFIES OVER SAFFRON TERROR REMARK
By Delhi Bureau
Taking on Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was unapologetic about using the term “saffron terror”, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh Wednesday said he has objections to using colour, creed or religion for defining terror.
“Terrorism cannot be related to any colour, creed or religion. It arises from fundamentalists of any religion, be it Hindus or Muslims,” he told reporters here.
Earlier in the day, Chidambaram said he used the words to convey the message that a few rightwing religious groups were behind some terror blasts in India.
“I cannot claim the patent on the phrase. The phrase has been used in the past,” Chidambaram told a press conference here.
The home minister was asked about the objection raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in parliament after he cautioned security and intelligence officials at an internal security meeting against “recently uncovered phenomenon of saffron terrorism”.
